Treatment at hospitals in India: a guide for patients in Seychelles

This page sets out what patients in Seychelles need in order to travel to India for treatment at our partner hospitals. We coordinate the whole journey, from the first medical report to follow-up after you return home.

The Indian medical visa

e-Medical Visa

Seychellois passport holders can apply for India's e-Medical Visa online. Seychelles is entry 142 on the official eligibility list. There is no visa fee, for the patient's medical visa or for an attendant's. That is unusual — most nationalities we deal with pay for both. Both routes are genuinely open here. The online application is the faster one, and the High Commission in Victoria also publishes a short paper checklist, which is a real alternative rather than a formality.

Apply on the official Indian e-Visa portal

Indian mission

  • The High Commission of India in Victoria is resident in Seychelles, so an application can be lodged on Mahé without leaving the country.
  • Third floor, Maison Esplanade, Francis Rachel Street, Victoria, Mahé, PO Box 488, above the Al-Salam bank. Telephone +248 4 674 100. Consular email [email protected].
  • Open Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 16:30, closing between 12:00 and 12:30. Visa files are lodged in the morning only, between 08:30 and 12:00.
  • The published processing time is two working days, and the mission says urgent applications can be dealt with the same day — the shortest stated turnaround of any mission in this project, and the reason a treatment date here can be arranged at shorter notice than elsewhere.
  • Collection times are given differently on two of the mission's own pages, so we confirm the pick-up time with it rather than printing a time that may be wrong.

Travelling with a family member

Two people may accompany you, each on a medical attendant visa granted against your own medical visa, and for Seychellois applicants these carry no fee. The paper route in Victoria also has a medical attendant category of its own, which is uncommon in this region: in most places the paper route handles attendants only indirectly, through the patient's file. Here the category exists in the mission's own fee schedule. Which relatives qualify is not published, by the portal or by the mission, so we settle that with the High Commission rather than assume it.

Documents

  • Online, the patient uploads the scanned passport bio page with the photograph and personal details, a recent front-facing photograph on a white background, and the Indian hospital's letter on its letterhead giving the date or expected date of admission. An attendant needs only the bio page. Files are PDF, between 10 KB and 300 KB, and must be in English. The passport needs six months' validity and two blank pages.
  • The paper list in Victoria is short. A passport valid at least six months; the application form completed in block capitals — filled in online under "Regular Visa Application", choosing Seychelles and then the mission "Seychelles-Victoria", then printed and signed; one recent passport photograph pasted on the form; and a letter giving the patient's name, passport details and travel date, and those of anyone accompanying them.
  • That letter is where Seychelles differs from everywhere else we cover: the mission will accept one from the Seychelles Ministry of Health, not only from the Indian hospital. If your care is being arranged through the public system, that is the simpler document to obtain.

Visa rules differ by country and change often. Once a partner hospital accepts your case we arrange the hospital’s invitation letter and check the current rules with you before you apply.

Getting to India

Airports

Seychelles International Airport, IATA code SEZ, on Mahé. Praslin has a second airport, used for flights between the islands rather than for leaving the country.

Routes to India

  • There is a non-stop flight to India from Mahé, which is rare in this region: IndiGo flies Mahé to Mumbai on its own aircraft, without a change.
  • It operates four days a week — Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday — and appears both in the weekly schedule published by the Seychelles airport authority and on the airline's own pages.
  • Any other Indian city means a connection, in practice through Mumbai. For a patient who is unwell, arriving in India without an intermediate airport is worth a great deal, so it is usually better to accept a domestic leg inside India than a change on the way there.
  • We check the schedule in force with you before booking.

Before you travel, check your own government’s current travel advice and your airline’s flight status.

Money

Currency
